NCETM LLME Spotlight

This month I was featured in the NCETM LLME Spotlight and I talked about the Non-Specialist SKTM (Subject Knowledge for Teachers of Mathematics) programme I’m leading for London SE+ Maths Hub. This project is designed to support the development of specialist subject knowledge in non-specialist teachers teaching maths in a secondary school, thus enabling them to understand, teach and support students in the maths classroom. This is a really important project because in England there is a national shortage of maths teacher, with nearly half of secondary schools using non-specialists to teach maths.

I have been a Local Leader of Mathematics Education (LLME) working for Maths Hubs for 6 years and I’ve led on a variety of different project – this year I am also leading on the Cross-phase – Supporting Low Attainers to Achieve a Level 2 Qualification in Mathematics project for the London SE+ Maths Hub.

I thoroughly enjoy working with Maths Hubs, supporting maths teachers to develop their subject knowledge and pedagogy. The Maths Hub programmes and Work Groups are such high quality and are often FREE. So, if you are a maths teacher or maths education leader in England, find your local Maths Hub and see what projects you can get involved in!

And, If you are a non-specialist maths teacher in London, there is still time to sign up for my London SE+ Maths Hub group. Sign up here.

First session on 29th February 2024 (online)
